FAQs
Is counselling helpful and effective?
The short answer is: yes.
According to American Psychiatry Association, approximately 75% individuals who had treatment are benefit from it. Research shows that most people who received treatment have significant improvement on their emotions, behaviors, symptom relief, and daily functioning.
Research also shows that a good therapeutic relationship is essential to establishing a successful outcome by promoting willingness for the client to share and engage with the counsellor, which increase one's natural tendency toward self awareness and change in behavior, thoughts and beliefs.
What is my cancellation policy?
Full session cancellation fee when cancel within 36 hours or no show.
If you are unable to attend the scheduled session, please make sure you cancel or reschedule it at least 36 hours beforehand, so that the time slot can be filled with another client in need. More than a day notice helps me to have enough time to make arrangement for the cancellation spot. I understand that life happens, if a crisis arises in your life, I will waive the fee. Aside from crisis situations, there are many options available to make sure you are able to attend the session. Please contact me as soon as possible if something does come up.
How many sessions do I need? How often do I need to attend?
The short answer is: it depends.
Every individual is unique and different. It depends on their goals, strengths, commitment, and many others. Some clients come to address a specific issue while some clients want ongoing personal growth. It also depends on if we are a good fit or not. Some clients may find we are a good fit right away, while some may take one or two sessions to find out.
Usually Weekly sessions are recommended at the beginning of counselling, with the focus to better understand you and your needs and to establish our therapeutic relationship. I will gradually space out our sessions after you feel you have made progress on the issues you first came to counselling for. When you feel more resilient, we will switch sessions to monthly check-in or whenever you need.
What populations you specialized in?
I was born and raised in China and moved to Canada in a young age. I understand the challenges of being an Asian/Chinese in North America culture. As a mother with a young age child, I understand how uneasy but fulfilling it is to be a parent.
Here are some examples of populations that I specialized in:
-
Asian/Chinese/Cantonese
-
Parent-to-be and New parent
-
Women
-
Adults and Young Adults
What is good fit in counselling relationship?
The feeling of comfortable while working together with the counsellor is necessary. Once the therapeutic relationship has established, you feel safe enough to open up more with the counsellor. Also, a sense of connection is essential, whether is a similar background or a "I know he/she can understand and not judge me!" kind of sense.
When you are choosing your own counsellor, please ask yourself why is him/her? Will you feel comfortable talking to this counsellor? Be honest with your counsellor of your thoughts and feelings, so you can make the most of the counselling process. Good luck with your search! :D
